Alstom has signed a contract extension worth £10.4 million to continue to maintain TransPennine Express’s (TPE) Class 397 fleet until December 2025.
Under the contract, Alstom will offer train maintenance, stabling and cleaning services for TPE’s fleet of 12 five-car Class 397 electric multiple units (EMUs), known as Nova 2.
The work for TPE will continue to be delivered as Alstom’s Traincare Centres in Manchester and Glasgow.
Peter Broadley, Services Managing Director UK and Ireland at Alstom, said: “Securing this contract extension is a testament to the quality of our Services portfolio and the strong partnership we have developed with TransPennine Express.
Chris Jackson, Managing Director at TransPennine Express, said: “We are delighted to continue our strong partnership with Alstom and look forward to working with them to maintain the quality of one of our key fleets and to deliver further improvements.”
Alstom’s Manchester Traincare Centre at Longsight can accommodate almost 300 rail vehicles at one time and is the home depot for the Nova 2s. Alstom’s Glasgow Traincare Centre at Polmadie welcomes around 17 trains each day, including TPEs Class 397 units.
The Class 397 fleet entered service in November 2019, carrying passengers on TransPennine North West services between Liverpool, Manchester Airport, Glasgow and Edinburgh.
The fleet has since covered more than eight million miles, an average of 688,000 miles per unit.
