Avanti West Coast has launched an interactive live rail map online to help customers track their train in real-time during their journey.
In a collaboration with Signalbox, the interactive map will feature on its website as part of a trial and will provide users real-time information on their train and uses enhanced live data to track precise local train movements, check the current performance and the status updates.
The scheme was brought in after suggestion from the station team at Carlisle who said that customers could benefit with a visual guide to their journey. Following on from that, the data was installed on digital screens at the station and proved successful.
Passengers have the option currently to monitor progress of their journey through Live Train Status, however this is without a visual aid.
David Franklin, Innovation Strategy Manager at Avanti West Coast, said: “We know how important it is to our customers to have clear and live information when travelling with us. We’re always looking to find new and better ways of doing things and are delighted to innovate with Signalbox to trial this technology.”
Avanti West Coast and Signalbox will now work on a more customised version for passengers including assistive technologies such as screen readers and contrast readers.
