DB Cargo UK has unveiled a series of senior leadership appointments designed to accelerate operational performance, strengthen financial resilience, and support long‑term strategic growth across the rail freight business.

In a significant organisational reshaping, Roger Neary, formerly Chief Sales Officer, steps into the newly consolidated role of Chief Commercial Officer. This expanded remit unites all commercial activity under one strategic banner — spanning Sales, Commercial Development, and Engineering. With Engineering identified as a key growth pillar, Roger’s leadership will be instrumental in driving profitable and sustainable diversification across DB Cargo UK's evolving service offering.

Meanwhile, Kate Turner, previously Head of Operations North, has been promoted to Chief Operating Officer, now overseeing Train Planning in addition to frontline operations. By bringing all operational delivery into a single structure, DB Cargo UK aims to reinforce safety, reliability, and service performance for customers nationwide. Kate — who began her career at DB as an apprentice in 2012 — will also join the UK Management Board, marking a notable milestone in her progression through the organisation.

Further strengthening operational leadership, Mark Sargant, formerly Head of Operations South, becomes Director of Operations with a new national remit. His focus will centre on delivering safe, efficient, day‑to‑day train running operations across the UK through close collaboration with frontline teams.
In addition, Graham Preston, Head of Operational Projects, will assume overall responsibility for DB Cargo UK's delivery of activities associated with the introduction of the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) in the UK — a major technological transition for the business and the wider industry.
CEO Andrea Rossi emphasised the strategic importance of these changes, stating:
“Aligning our organisational structure to our four key areas of focus – Rail, Maintenance, Services and Property – will strengthen accountability and ensure we are set up to continue to deliver best in class services to our customers and industry stakeholders."
He added:
“By reorganising how we work and sharpening our commercial focus, we will be better equipped to seize and respond to market opportunities."
Commenting on Kate Turner’s appointment, Rossi said:
“I am particularly pleased to welcome Kate on to the UK Management Board. Since joining us an apprentice, Kate has gained valuable experience, fulfilling a number of senior management roles in both Sales and Production at DB.”
These leadership moves underscore DB Cargo UK’s commitment to growth, innovation and operational excellence as it continues to strengthen its position as a leading force in UK rail freight.
