Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane (FS Group) is accelerating its European growth strategy with a major new investment: an €80 million high‑speed train maintenance hub at Maisons‑Alfort Pompadour, just outside Paris. The development—led by FS subsidiary Trenitalia France—is designed to support the operator’s expanding presence in the French market and prepare for the planned Frecciarossa Paris–London high‑speed service.
Set to open in 2029, the facility will provide vital maintenance and storage capacity for Trenitalia France’s growing fleet. By enabling local servicing, the new hub removes the operational dependence on UK-based depots, improving efficiency and reducing the complexity of cross‑border fleet management.
Trenitalia France, headquartered in Paris, currently operates high-speed services linking the French capital with Lyon, Marseille, and Milan. The new hub is positioned to underpin long‑term expansion, particularly as competition continues to increase in the liberalised French high‑speed market.

A Strategic Asset to Support Cross‑Border Growth
Designed to handle up to 25 high‑speed trains simultaneously, the facility will include specialist areas for cleaning, washing, light and heavy maintenance, and overnight storage. Its development is also set to boost the local economy, with an estimated 100 new jobs created—spanning both direct employment and partner service provider roles.
FS Group emphasised the importance of the project for Europe’s future mobility landscape.
"With this investment, we are strengthening FS Group's industrial presence in France and supporting the development of European rail mobility," said Stefano Antonio Donnarumma, CEO and General Manager of FS Italiane Group.
"The new maintenance hub represents a strategic infrastructure that will drive the growth of Trenitalia's activities in the country, and will support future high-speed connections between Paris and London, in a view of making trains increasingly central in the European sustainable mobility landscape".

The facility will play a key role in enabling the launch of the highly anticipated Frecciarossa Paris–London service, which aims to offer a competitive alternative to existing cross‑Channel operators and strengthen rail's position as a sustainable long‑distance travel solution.
