Global Centre of Rail Excellence and Getzner Partner to Drive Innovation in Railway Technology

The Global Centre of Rail Excellence (GCRE) and Getzner, a European leader in vibration isolation technology and superstructure protection, have announced a new collaboration to develop cutting-edge rail technologies.

This partnership will leverage GCRE's state-of-the-art testing facilities and Getzner's expertise in elastic solutions to create quieter, more efficient, and sustainable railways.

"This is a major coup for GCRE," said Simon Jones, chief executive of GCRE Limited. "Getzner's reputation as a global leader in their field speaks volumes, and their presence at our facility demonstrates the significant commercial appeal of what we're building."

The collaboration will see Getzner utilize GCRE's 700-hectare site for research and development, product testing, and showcasing new technologies to potential customers. This unique arrangement will enable Getzner to develop its products in tandem with GCRE whilst simultaneously opening up significant commercial opportunities.

"Innovation is key to our success," said Thomas Gamsjäger, senior vice president of the Railway Division at Getzner. "Partnering with GCRE gives us access to world-class testing infrastructure and a platform to collaborate with other industry leaders. This will ultimately lead to better solutions for railway operators and passengers alike."

Both parties emphasised the importance of this partnership in addressing the growing demand for reliable and sustainable railway transportation. With Europe's ambitious mobility plans demanding increased passenger traffic, Getzner's vibration isolation technologies play a crucial role in reducing maintenance times and improving train availability.

"Our collaboration will directly contribute to the transition to net zero by optimising track performance and reducing noise levels," Jones added. "What this agreement demonstrates is the significant demand coming from major clients across Europe and the wide range of practical uses to which the GCRE facility can be put.

“This is a long-term partnership and further highlights the growing commercial confidence in GCRE as more international manufacturers sign up as customers for our site.”
