Hitachi Rail, in collaboration with Trenitalia, has introduced the latest model of its ETR1000 train. With 78 ETR1000 trains already in service and an additional 48 on order, this high-speed train has revolutionised rail travel across Italy, France, and Spain, covering nearly 200 million kilometres since its launch.
The new ETR1000 features a re-engineered traction motor and updated power units, enhancing energy efficiency. It also boasts a new bogie and an advanced Train Control and Monitoring System, fully developed by Hitachi Rail.
This model benefits from Hitachi Rail’s HMAX suite, an all-in-one digital asset management platform. Utilizing AI-enhanced digital solutions, the HMAX suite processes data from the train’s sensors, enabling operators to predict and optimize services more accurately.
Externally, the train sports a new livery, while internally, it offers an updated Executive Class with more seats and additional luggage space, maintaining high standards of service. All passengers will enjoy improved Wi-Fi, a new catering service in the bistro, and a refreshed interior design with updated colours and seats.
Building on its European success, Hitachi Rail is also designing an ETR1000 model for regions with challenging weather conditions, such as high temperatures and monsoons. Adaptations include modified HVAC systems and filters to protect against dust and sand, making it suitable for markets like the Middle East.
Commenting on the unveiling, Giuseppe Marino, CEO of Hitachi Rail, said: “We are proud to unveil the evolution of our ETR1000 train.”
“Over the past nine years our high-speed technology has transformed how passengers travel in Italy, and more recently in France and Spain, achieving almost 200 million km of service – the equivalent of a staggering 5,000 journeys around the world.”
