The government has announced that once Great British Railways is established through new legislation, it will unify the online ticketing systems of individual train operators.
This initiative aims to create a seamless online retail experience while fostering a competitive private sector market where all rail retailers can thrive. The private sector will continue to be instrumental in driving growth through innovation and investment, encouraging more people to choose rail travel.
The detailed plans for Great British Railways' online retail operations and maintaining a fair competitive market will be developed in collaboration with industry and private sector partners. These plans will be part of broader proposals to establish Great British Railways, to be delivered through the Railways Bill.
Great British Railways is committed to simplifying the current complex fare and ticketing system, enabling passengers to purchase tickets both online and offline. In the coming months, more details will be provided on how Great British Railways will reform the railways, modernise working practices, simplify and make ticketing fairer, and ultimately deliver better services for passengers and better value for taxpayers.
