Jacobs has been appointed as part of a joint venture with GHD and WSP to deliver the design of five new underground stations for Sydney Metro West – Stations Package West, one of Australia’s most significant transport infrastructure programmes.
The 14.9‑mile (24‑kilometre) Sydney Metro West alignment will connect Greater Parramatta with Sydney’s central business district, dramatically improving access to fast, reliable public transport for rapidly growing communities. The line is set to strengthen connectivity between Sydney’s inner and western suburbs while supporting new housing, employment and local services along the corridor.
Stations Package West is being delivered by Gamuda as lead contractor, with integrated engineering design services provided by the Jacobs‑GHD‑WSP joint venture. The scope includes the design of five underground stations at Westmead, North Strathfield, Burwood North, Five Dock and The Bays.
Sustainability sits at the heart of the design approach. All five stations are targeting a 6 Star Green Star As Built rating, reflecting a strong focus on high‑performance, low‑carbon and environmentally responsible infrastructure.
Jacobs Executive Vice President Sinead Giblin said:
“Jacobs’ appointment, alongside our JV partners, builds on our track record supporting transformative rail investments in Australia and globally.

Gamuda Project Director Richard Petaccia added:
“Gamuda is very pleased to partner with the NSW Government and the Sydney Metro Team to deliver another vital package for Sydney Metro West, helping to shape the future of Sydney. Being entrusted to deliver the Stations Package West, along with our integrated team, is a testament to the exceptional work our team continues to deliver. We look forward to delivering five stations on Australia’s largest transport project.”
The appointment builds on Jacobs’ ongoing involvement in Sydney Metro West, including the delivery of environmental and climate change advisory services, as well as the central tunnel and station excavation package, completed in late 2025 in joint venture with Typsa.
Globally, Jacobs continues to deliver major mass transit schemes, including Grand Central Madison and Penn Station Access in New York, the Elizabeth line in the UK, and Klang Valley Mass Rapid Transit in Malaysia, reinforcing its position as a leading partner for complex metro and rail programmes worldwide..
