In a light-hearted show of support for England, train operator Northern has temporarily rebranded Holmes Chapel station as “It’s Coming Holmes Chapel” ahead of the national side’s highly anticipated semi-final against Argentina.
New signage has been installed across the Cheshire station, creating a buzz among passengers and staff alike, as football fever builds across the North of England. The move is designed to lift spirits and generate excitement ahead of what is expected to be an intense evening for supporters.
The initiative also carries a practical message. Northern is encouraging fans travelling to pubs, fan zones or returning home after the match to opt for rail services instead of driving, helping to ease congestion and promote safer journeys.
Alex Hornby, Commercial and Customer Director for Northern, said:
"It's coming Holmes Chapel! With England taking on Argentina in the semi-final, we wanted to give our customers something to smile about on the way to wherever they're watching the game.
"On a more serious note, we're encouraging as many fans as possible to leave the car at home and travel by train, whether that's heading into town for the atmosphere or just getting home safely after full time.
"We'll have trains running late into the evening to help everyone get home once the football's finished, but remember to check your last train times in case it goes to extra time or penalties."

Northern has confirmed that additional late-evening services will operate where possible, although passengers are advised to check timetables in advance due to expected higher demand. The operator plays a vital role in connecting communities across the North, running approximately 2,650 services daily and serving more than 500 stations.
The station’s branding will revert to its original name once England’s semi-final journey concludes—whether triumphant or otherwise.
The campaign reflects a growing trend across the rail industry to engage with major national events while promoting public transport as a safer, more sustainable travel option during periods of high demand.
