Tim Shoveller, Managing Director, North West and Central Region, Network Rail

NR, GBR Transition and TransCityRail | In conversation with Tim Shoveller

TransCityRail North is now less than 2 weeks away!

Ahead of the event, we caught up with one of our keynote speakers Tim Shoveller, Managing Director, North West and Central Region, Network Rail to find out what we can expect to hear from him and to get his thought on the biggest challenges currently faced by the industry.

Q: You’ve had a very experienced career in rail and began over 30 years ago at British Rail. What’s your view on the upcoming transition to Great British Railways?

I’m excited by the prospect of GBR and the opportunities it brings. None of which is to underestimate the challenges we face as an industry either! I have seen huge changes since I joined, but the need for rail as a key part of a low carbon transport network is more relevant than ever!

Q: At TransCityRail in 2019 you spoke about Network Rail becoming a service organisation, do you think the transition will help us to achieve the goal of a truly passenger first railway?

Ultimately NR will be absorbed into GBR, so the changes that are underway are crucial to ensure that passengers and freight customers are central to our purpose.

Q: What do you think are the greatest challenges currently facing the rail industry in the North?

I think the need to demonstrate progress and the value from the investments made in recent years, offering that reliable service whilst the new major investments are made it a great problem to solve!

Q: We’re really looking forward to welcoming you at #TransCityRail North next month. What can we expect you to discuss in your keynote session?

I’m going to focus on the groundbreaking, collaborative work across the industry to build that reliable, attractive service!

If you'd like to hear more from Tim and a variety of industry-leading speakers responsible for building, shaping, and delivering the rail investment strategy of the North, network and listen to buyers from infrastructure owners, transport bodies, major contractors and operators delivering major projects across the region book your place at the conference by following this link or inquire about becoming an event partner here.
