Railway Industry Association appoint new Business Engagement Manager

The Railway Industry Association (RIA) has announced the appointment of a new Business Engagement Manager in the North of England.

Rail industry consultant Richard Carr has been appointed to the role supporting RIA’s roll out of its Nations and Regions network.

Mr Carr has vast experience in the rail industry having worked with rail equipment manufacturer Mechan as an Owner and Managing Director.

Some of Mr Carr’s previous experience also saw him provide consultancy services for the University of Huddersfield and various supply chain companies.

He also helped to establish the Rail Sector Deal SME Collaboration pilot scheme and was an active member of the Rail Supply Group SME and Export workstreams.

Justin Moss, Chair of RIA North spoke on Mr Carr’s appointment to the role.

Mr Moss said: “I’m delighted to have Richard join the RIA North team as we begin 2022.

“We have a really exciting year ahead, building on the work of the Northern Rail Industry Leaders as we strengthen our partnership with RIA.

“It will mean even more support, events and activity to help your businesses succeed and grow in the North.”

Mr Carr also commented on his new role with RIA.

Mr Carr said: “It's really exciting to be joining RIA North at such an important time for the industry.

“With the Integrated Rail Plan now out, the Transpennine Route Upgrade underway, and preparations to bring HS2 to Manchester beginning, amongst many other projects.

“There is a huge amount for rail businesses to get involved with.

“I'm really looking forward to working with RIA, the Executive team of RIA North and businesses and stakeholders across the region.”

Mr Carr will look to engage and influence key decision-makers in the North thus supporting RIA members in the region.

The role will also feature require Mr Carr to support the delivery of the RIA North Leadership Group’s priorities.
