TransPennine Express (TPE) is set to significantly enhance rail connectivity to Manchester Airport with the introduction of all‑night services as part of its new timetable, launching next month.
From Sunday 17 May, the operator will add eight new services, delivering an approximately hourly train service between Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport, operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The change is designed to better support passengers travelling early in the morning or late at night, particularly those flying to and from the UK’s third busiest airport.
The overnight airport services form part of a wider industry‑wide timetable change and represent a notable step in improving accessibility for shift workers, aviation staff and long‑distance travellers arriving into Greater Manchester outside traditional operating hours.
Alongside the airport enhancements, TPE will also introduce a new weekday stop at Dewsbury on the 08:05 Leeds to Manchester Piccadilly service. This additional call is new to the timetable and is expected to benefit students and commuters, offering greater flexibility for early morning travel into Manchester.
Seasonal capacity is also being boosted north of the border. To support demand during one of the UK’s largest cultural events, TPE will run two additional services per day during the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. The extra trains will operate from Monday 3 August until Friday 4 September, running alongside the usual timetable to help festivalgoers travel home after late‑night performances, including live music, comedy and dance.
The changes reflect TPE’s ongoing focus on improving connectivity across its network while responding to passenger demand at key destinations and events.
