New images have been unveiled showcasing the upcoming changes to the Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) between Stalybridge tunnel and Diggle (Saddleworth). The public consultation for this section of the route is now open and will run until 25 October 2024.
Additional images highlight the relocated Mossley station and the upgraded Greenfield station, both of which will receive accessibility improvements for the first time. There are also new visuals of how the overhead line equipment (OLE) will be carefully installed on the historic Uppermill Viaduct, also known as Saddleworth Viaduct. The placement of the OLE masts has been thoughtfully planned to minimize visibility on the viaduct.
The Oldham Road Bridge will be reconstructed by TRU to accommodate the OLE and allow larger freight trains to pass. New images reveal a footbridge will be built from Oldham Road to Shaw Hall Bank Road, adjacent to the existing Oldham Road Bridge, to separate pedestrians from traffic and enhance safety.
Craig Harrop, Regional Director for Northern, said:
"Our stations at Mossley and Greenfield will be transformed by the Transpennine Route Upgrade over the coming years, becoming fully accessible for the first time in their histories amongst a whole range of other customer-focussed improvements.
"This is a fantastic opportunity for our communities to share their views on what they want to see at these stations, and I'm really excited to hear their ideas as we move forwards into the next phase of design work."
The Transpennine Route Upgarde is one of the many projects being discussed at TransCityRail North which takes place in Manchester in November. Find out more details about this unmissable event here
