The Transpennine Route Upgrade has scored a perfect 45/45 score after a recent Considerate Constructors Scheme assessment, Network Rail has confirmed.
The acclaim comes thanks to practices at Huddersfield station, where the TRU has ramped up activity in the last year.
Engineers are delivering a series of upgrades to modernise the station, while respecting the site’s historical features.
The award
The CCS looks to promote improvement in how construction is carried out and the impact it has on things like:
- Community
- Environment
- Workforce
The TRU reaffirmed its commitment to the Code of Considerate Practice when signing up to the scheme. Making sure the project in Huddersfield had a positive impact locally was vital, according to Network Rail.
TRU success
Rail leaders believe a number of factors contributed to the flawless rating, including local procurement, public engagement, industry-leading recreational facilities for staff, and more.
“I am very proud of the score achieved by HD1 and Huddersfield Station,” said Pete Sollitt, the managing director at the TRU West Alliance.
He added: “This result reflects the commitment of the West Alliance to positively impact the communities we are delivering works in, the surrounding environment, and our workforce. I would like to extend my thanks to everyone involved in making this possible.”
Several installations are also to thank for the perfect score, including cassettes (temporary working platforms) allowing for continued operation at the station, as well as the largest JCOP 10.1 – the latest and highest standard of fire protection available in temporary accommodation – building installed in the UK.
Similar scores for the CCS have been achieved by the TRU West Alliance before, with sites across Batley, Mirfield, Hillhouse, Weaving Lane, Gorton Road and Grimshaw Lane boasting ‘Excellent’ ratings.
