New trains for the new service

Grand Central Railway today confirmed that it has signed a lease with Angel Trains for two Class 180 (Adelante) diesel trains.

This complements last Friday’s confirmation from the Office of Rail Regulation that Grand Central has firm rights to operate a fourth daily return service between Sunderland and London.

The two new 125mph five-car trains will join Grand Central’s existing fleet of High Speed Trains and will allow the Open Access Operator to commence the additional return service from the North East to the capital in the summer.

Tom Clift, managing director of Grand Central said: “We are very pleased to have concluded these negotiations with Angel Trains for additional trains to operate our extra services between the Durham Coast, Teeside, North Yorkshire and London. These trains will create more journey opportunities for our existing Passengers & potential customers. The leasing of the two Class 180 trains is obviously key to this”.
