Alstom has successfully delivered the first Metropolis metro train for the Pune Metro Line 3.
The train is the first of 22 Metropolis trainsets of three cars each, with a capacity of up to 1000 passengers per train. The new fleet has been fully manufactured in India and is capable of speeds of up to 95 km/h.
Alstom India was awarded the contract in 2021 along with TRIL Urban Transport Private Limited and Siemens Project Ventures GmbH to provide rolling stock, electrical and mechanical system works for the project.
The Pune Metro Line 3 is a 23-kilometre elevated rail project connecting Shivajinagar’s central business district and Hinjewadi’s IT hub, two districts in Pune.
Olivier Loison, Managing Director at Alstom India said, “We are thrilled to be contributing to this prestigious project by Tata Group.”
“We are confident that our locally manufactured technologically advanced Metropolis metro trains will play a key role in enhancing the quality of life of the citizens and the overall development of the city.”
“At Alstom, we focus on developing sustainable products and solutions that stand the test of time by operating efficiently for decades to come.”
Work on the line has been jointly undertaken by Tata Group and the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), with the establishment of Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited as a special purpose vehicle company to build the corridor and its 23 stations.
