Greater Anglia has unveiled a significantly improved live route map designed to give customers clearer, more intuitive information about train services, alternative routes and station facilities — particularly during periods of disruption.
The redesigned map follows an extensive year‑long programme of feedback gathered from customers and frontline colleagues, with the operator using those insights to simplify how passengers access and interpret live travel information.
Available via the Greater Anglia app, the live route map brings together real‑time train running data, detailed station information, accessibility features and suggested alternative routes during disruption. The aim is to help customers plan ahead, make informed decisions and travel with greater confidence when services are not running as planned.
Clearer, more intuitive network information
The updated map introduces a number of improvements focused on clarity, usability and geographic accuracy. These include clearer interchange points with other operators and networks, notably the Elizabeth line and London Underground, making it easier for customers to understand how different services connect.
Stations and routes are now displayed with improved geographic accuracy, helping customers visualise where locations sit in relation to one another — an important enhancement during disruption when alternative routes may be required.
Operator logos have been made more prominent, allowing customers to quickly identify affected routes and spot other services that could offer viable alternatives. Improved symbols now highlight airports and stations with limited services, while station names have been refined for better legibility.
The overall design has also been simplified, using black route lines against a light green background, with seaside destinations clearly marked using yellow sand and blue sea to aid quick recognition.

Improved accessibility and mobile compatibility
The map key has been redesigned to give customers greater control over the information they see. Users can now choose to display specific symbols — including step‑free access — only when they need them, reducing visual clutter while supporting inclusive travel.
Crucially, the updated map has been optimised for mobile use, making it easier for customers to access live train information, tickets and travel updates via the Greater Anglia app while on the move.
The Greater Anglia app is available from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
Kerry Rowley, Greater Anglia’s Senior Service Quality Customer Experience Manager, said:
“Customers told us they wanted the live map to be clearer and easier to use, so we have redesigned it around their feedback.
“The new version makes it simpler to see what is happening on the network, check station information and understand possible alternative routes during disruption.
“We want the map to give customers more confidence when they travel, especially when services are disrupted and clear, timely information really matters.”
Building on earlier innovation
The original live route map was launched in June 2023, with the aim of providing customers with clearer information about disruption and viable alternative travel options.
The latest enhancements form part of Greater Anglia’s wider commitment to using customer feedback and digital technology to improve the passenger experience — particularly at times when accurate, accessible information is most critical.
