Graduate Programme Opens for 2026 Intake
HS2 has also announced 16 new graduate placements across engineering, commercial and project controls. The two‑year programme allows graduates to rotate through multiple teams, gaining broad industry experience in either Birmingham or London.
Building Future UK Infrastructure Capability
To date, HS2 has welcomed 2,032 apprentices onto the project — a number expected to grow throughout 2026 as HS2 continues its programme-wide reset to improve sequencing, cost certainty, and delivery efficiency.
Rebecca Young emphasised the value of apprenticeships at any stage of life:
“It’s never too late to start a new career and apprenticeships are a brilliant option for those seeking something new. With fully funded training costs and time allocated for study, there’s never been a better time to consider an apprenticeship.”
As HS2 progresses, the 33,000‑strong workforce is not only building a transformative high‑speed rail line but also developing the specialist skills required for future national infrastructure challenges. Once open, HS2 will enhance connections between London and the West Midlands, free up capacity on the West Coast Main Line, and support long-term economic growth.
