Avanti West Coast has introduced a new fleet of trains as part of its summer timetable change.
Hitachi has supplied the new fleet of 23 trains, named Evero, which consists of 10 Class 807 seven-carriage electric trains and 13 Class 805 five-carriage bi-modes.
The fleet will initially operate on routes from London to the Midlands, Chester, North Wales and the North West.
Managing Director of Avanti West Coast, Andy Mellors said: “The introduction of our new timetable and the Evero fleet marks an exciting new chapter for our people and customers.
“The investment is also a key part of our plans to support the UK rail industry, and our wider commitment to improve customer experience on the West Coast Main Line.”
The electric trains will primarily operate on the routes between London, the West Midlands and Liverpool.
Meanwhile, the Class 805 bi-mode trains, which switch between electric and diesel power, will operate largely on the London to North Wales route. These vehicles have 299 seats, 16% more than the Voyager trains which previously served this part of the network.
The £350 million fleet will be maintained at Alstom’s Oxley depot in the West Midlands and will work alongside the Pendolino trains, which have recently undergone the largest upgrade of its kind in the UK rail industry with a £117 million investment.
