The Office of Rail and Road (ORR) has officially authorised the reopening of Bedlington Station, the final stop to return to service on the Northumberland Line, ahead of its passenger opening on Sunday 29 March.
This authorisation marks a significant milestone for the long‑awaited project and confirms that the station’s two new platforms, passenger information systems, help points, lighting, CCTV, ticketing facilities, and a new car park have met all regulatory standards—covering safety, accessibility, environmental protections, reliability and availability.
Throughout the process, ORR has worked collaboratively with Network Rail, Northern, and the wider delivery team to ensure essential checks, surveys and compliance reviews were successfully completed.
Steve Fletcher, Deputy Director, Engineering and Asset Management at ORR, said:

“We’re pleased to have played our part in getting Bedlington station ready to open. Our team worked closely with Network Rail and Northern to support them through the authorisation process, just as we do for new trains and infrastructure across the country.”
