RAILONE GmbH has unveiled plans to construct a new, state-of-the-art concrete sleeper plant in the Nuremberg harbour area, reinforcing its long-term commitment to the German and wider European rail market. The new facility, to be located on Triester Straße, marks a significant milestone in the company’s continued growth strategy and modernisation agenda.
A sleeper storage yard is already operational at the site, which will form part of an expanded 42,000 square metre footprint once the new production plant is delivered. Planning for the project is already underway, with the development designed to position RAILONE at the forefront of modern sleeper manufacturing.
A future-focused manufacturing hub
The Nuremberg facility is set to produce up to 600,000 concrete sleepers annually, supplying both Germany’s national railway network and international markets. Designed as the most advanced production site within the PCM RAILONE Group, the plant will integrate cutting-edge automation, efficiency-driven systems and sustainable production processes.
A carousel-operated late demoulding system will underpin operations, ensuring high-quality output and optimised manufacturing performance. The facility will also include storage capacity for approximately 200,000 sleepers and feature two 350-metre loading tracks to streamline logistics and distribution.
This investment will generate between 50 and 70 jobs across production and administration, further strengthening the local economy while supporting the rail sector’s growing demand for high-performance infrastructure components.

Transition from Neumarkt to Nuremberg
As the new site comes online, RAILONE will close its existing plant in Neumarkt, which has been in operation since 1954. While the closure signals the end of a historic chapter, the transition reflects a strategic shift towards modern, scalable and efficient production capabilities.
“The Neumarkt plant has been synonymous with RAILONE’s success story for decades and has played a key role in shaping our company. This makes it all the more important for us to set a new course with the new site in Nuremberg. With this investment, we are sending a clear signal of our long-term commitment to the German market. In Nuremberg, we are establishing a high-performance, forward-looking site that will ensure a reliable supply of prestressed concrete sleepers to DB AG and our international customers.”

Strengthening Europe’s rail supply chain
The investment underscores RAILONE’s strategic focus on innovation, sustainability and resilience in rail infrastructure manufacturing. By consolidating production into a technologically advanced facility, the company aims to improve efficiency while meeting the rising demand for durable and high-quality sleepers across Europe.
With Germany continuing to invest heavily in rail modernisation and expansion, the Nuremberg plant is expected to play a pivotal role in supporting both domestic and international rail projects for years to come.
