RSSB launches rule book app on Android platform
A new app developed by the RSSB to assist rail staff using mobiles and tablets to do their job has now been officially launched on the Android platform.
The Rule Book App allows workers to quickly and easily bring up the RSSB’s guidelines that set out clear instructions that must be followed in safety-critical scenarios.
It is used by 120,000 staff responsible for maintaining and running the railways every day, and the move to mobile devices is sure to be a big help for many people across the country.
Having the rule book in app form is a more modern alternative to paper copies, and also improves usability by offering better cross-document search functionality, intuitive navigation and responsive design.
Content can also be accessed even when offline and updates are made automatically on acknowledging a notification to the device.
This step forward now means the app is available on both Apple iOS and Android, making it accessible for even more RSSB members.
The organisation’s professional head of rail operations, Gary Portsmouth, said: “We are seeing a lot of interest from our members in trying out the app.
“Network Rail and train and freight operators have been at the heart of this work, and now they’re in a position to try the app out with their teams on either Apple or Android mobile devices.”
