Amey has strengthened its long-standing partnership with Network Rail after securing two framework contracts under the Eastern Region Assessment Contract (ERAC), reinforcing its role in supporting the safety, resilience and performance of the UK rail network.
Awarded in March, the dual contracts are worth a combined £40 million over a five-year period. The award covers both the North and South lots of the ERAC framework—the maximum allocation available—highlighting Network Rail’s confidence in Amey’s delivery capability.
Supporting critical routes across the Eastern Region
Under the framework, Amey will provide structural assessment services across some of the UK’s most important rail corridors. These include:
- North & East routes
- East Coast Main Line
- Anglia route
- East Midlands network
The scope of work involves assessing bridges and wider rail structures to ensure they remain safe, compliant and capable of supporting future demand.
Building on decades of delivery experience
The contract builds on Amey’s extensive presence in the region, where it has continuously delivered structural assessment services since 2003. This long track record demonstrates sustained performance at scale and a deep understanding of Network Rail’s infrastructure requirements.
Through detailed inspections and advanced engineering analysis, Amey will identify structural risks, validate load capacity and provide data-driven recommendations. This enables Network Rail to make informed decisions around maintenance programmes, strengthening works and operational planning.
The work is designed to help maintain a resilient rail network while minimising disruption for passengers, freight operators and local communities.
Industry reaction
Justin Page, Business Director for Rail at Amey, said:
“We are delighted to continue our partnership with Network Rail through the Eastern Region Assessments Contracts. This award reflects the strength of our long-standing relationship, and the trust Network Rail has in our capability and collaborative approach. We look forward to building on this partnership, helping to inform smarter investment decisions and improve the performance of critical infrastructure across its lifecycle.”
Strategic importance for UK rail
The ERAC frameworks play a critical role in ensuring the longevity of Britain’s rail infrastructure, particularly as demand for both passenger and freight services continues to grow. By combining engineering expertise with robust data analysis, contracts such as this underpin safety compliance while enabling future capacity enhancements.
Amey’s appointment across both lots positions the company as a key delivery partner in Network Rail’s Eastern Region, supporting asset performance and long-term infrastructure resilience.
