Taking responsibility
The secondment to Network Rail of Virgin Rail’s chief operating officer Chris Gibb will allow the operator greater involvement into improving the infrastructure of the WCML.
From strong words following the publication of the latest PPM figures, Virgin will now take on some of the responsibility for resolving this poor performance.
More collaborative working is generally a positive way to incorporate new ideas and perspectives for working on a specific issue and identifying the key areas for improvement.
However, with power comes responsibility, so Virgin may lose the ability to blame Network Rail if performance remains poor despite their man’s best efforts.
