National train PPM is at 92.9%

National train performance is now at 92.9%, new figures demonstrate. This covers period 3, from May 27 – June 23 and compares to 93% for the same period last year. The moving annual average is now at 91.6%.

Performance for period 2 was at 92.3%.

The franchise with the highest PPM this period was c2c Rail at 97.9%, and a MAA of 97%. The worst performing franchise was Virgin Trains at 88.8%. Virgin Trains chief operating officer Chris Gibb has recently been seconded to Network Rail to address infrastructure issues that contribute to poor performance.

The performance of Virgin Trains on the West Coast Main Line was affected by six days when PPM was lower than 80%, Network Rail said. These included signal failure, tape on overhead lines, flooding and a points failure.
