Crossrail appoints new health and safety director
Crossrail has appointed Martin Brown, formerly head of health, safety and the environment at Transport for London, as its new health and safety director.
Brown is also chair of the independent railway assurance board for Crossrail.
He was the independent safety expert on the Olympic Delivery Authority games transport safety and security committee, and has previously worked as HM principal inspector of factories for the health and safety executive (1979-1997), assistant chief inspector of railways at HM railway inspectorate (1997-2002) and executive director for health, safety, quality and the environment at Tube Lines (2002-2005).
Simon Wright, programme director for Crossrail, said: “Martin’s considerable expertise in rail health and safety will be invaluable.”
The Crossrail programme is 75% complete, with the most recent round of upgrades completed over the spring bank holiday, and it is due to start dynamic testing in November 2017.
