Passenger journeys continue to grow
The number of rail journeys in Britain is the highest since records began, new statistics from the ORR show. Journeys increased by 6% from 2010-11.
In 2011-12, there were 1.23bn journeys compared with the previous year. In England there were 1.11bn rail journeys, with 67.3% of those starting and ending in London. Rail journeys within individual regions increased by 6.8%.
Journeys in Scotland are up by 4.7%, with over 90% within the country. Wales’ journeys increased by 2.9%, the ORR added.
