Anglia rail upgrades set to improve passenger journeys
Following major upgrades to the Anglia rail network, carried out by Network Rail, passengers are set to benefit from greatly improved journeys.
The improvements were made as part of the company’s Rail Upgrade Plan across Essex and North London, and saw all of the projects delivered on time over the August bank holiday.
They included replacing the overhead lines and structures between Southend Victoria and Shenfield, as part of a project to improve reliability for services and passengers on the Southend Victoria line.
Engineers also installed 6km of new track between Camden Road and Willesden Junction on London Overground and replaced overhead lines and track as part of the Barking Riverside project between Grays and Barking, and between Pitsea and Dagenham.

Completion of the work had been coincided for some of the quietest times for rail travel on the country’s railway, with around half the normal number of passengers travelling compared to the typical 4.8m journeys taken each day.
Mark Budden, Network Rail’s route director for Anglia, said: “Anglia’s Team Orange worked incredibly hard over the bank holiday weekend to maintain and upgrade the railway, helping us to deliver more reliable services to passengers and freight users.
“We know there is never a good time to close the railway, so I want to offer my thanks to passengers and our lineside neighbours for their continued understanding while this much needed work was carried out.”
