Landslip to cause disruptions between Carlisle and Leeds until end of February
Railway disruptions between Carlisle and Leeds can be expected until the end of February after a landslip occurred near Appleby.
The landslip, caused by poor weather, happened on January 31.
Network Rail are working to stabilise the problem and repair damage to the track but further landslips have occurred, and both Northern Rail lines between Appleby and Carlisle are closed today.
At the time of writing a replacement bus service is running between Carlisle and Appleby, extending journey times by up to an hour.
One line is expected to reopen later today, allowing a reduced train service between Carlisle and Leeds, but a full service is not expected to resume until the end of the month.
