Network Rail meets freight performance order
The ORR has confirmed that Network Rail has met the terms of the freight performance order it issued earlier this year.
This involved the introduction of a freight recovery board and a detailed recovery plan with milestones across a broad range of areas for improvement.
These include better data, management of assets and incidents, timetabling, and focus on strategic freight corridors.
Network Rail caused delay to freight services has also improved markedly since January 2012, and the most recent data show the company is ahead of this year’s regulatory target.
In a letter to Network Rail, DB Schenker and freight associations, the ORR confirmed the improvements and thanked the company for its efforts.
The ORR stated it will “continue to keep freight performance under review and looks forward to further improvements, which the regulator believes will result in real benefits to freight customers”.
