Bills soaring at High Speed
It has been said that the government will face a far higher bill than expected from home owners looking to sell their houses along the proposed High Speed Rail route.
Local campaigners have said that the Exceptional Hardship Scheme fund, which currently runs at about £50 million, won’t be enough to cover the number of claims from people affected by the infrastructure project.
Steve Rodrick, chief officer of the Chilterns Conservation Board, told the Financial Times: “The government might well be deluged by applications.
“People are already losing financially. There are plenty of examples of house sales not going through and estate agents advising people that it’s going to be harder to sell properties.”
