Network Rail seeks four legal firms to support in-house team in CP6
Law firms are being invited by Network Rail to bid to become the infrastructure owner’s legal advisers from 1 May 2019 until 2024.
Its current team of 32 lawyers, led by group general counsel Stuart Kelly, is signalling a move away from the current traditional model towards “an innovation-driven, business-aligned group of advisers.”
Four full-service legal firms are being sought to partner with Network Rail’s in-house legal team to support corporate functions and devolved route businesses in the delivery of CP6 objectives.
Firms are expected to provide demonstratable expertise across all legal disciplines and must establish an innovative approach with a focus on quality and continuous improvement, as well as being committed to driving value for money.
Network Rail indicated that it is open to a “wide range of delivery proposals” to achieve this.
Three firms will be appointed to England and Wales and will be allocated to specific route businesses and corporate support functions. One firm will be appointed for Scotland to lead on all matters related to the country.
The bidding process is being led by Dan Kayne, general counsel for route businesses.
He commented: “We are excited to be offering this opportunity of partnership and innovation to the legal services market. The core aim of the tender event is to allow us, in partnership with our advisers, to deliver exceptional quality legal advice using innovation to drive value.”
Firms interested in bidding can do so here, where further details are available.
